Calcutta Swimming Club Architectural design details and philosophy: The editorial of the Statesman on 24th May 1887 stated that - ‘Everyone will be glad to learn that the Lieutenant Governor has sanctioned the construction of the Calcutta Swimming Club on the site selected near Chandpal Ghat’. It was on this day that the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal has sanctioned the construction of ‘Calcutta Swimming Bath’ the forerunner of the existing – The Calcutta Swimming Club.
To keep with such a legacy of the club, a modern facade improvement and overall refurbishment of the amenities have been the main program, with minimal interventions fused with a classical idiom. Functional areas like the banquet hall, poolside bar amenities, rooftop terrace for recreational purposes, green lawns are made and amidst all these activity zones sit the azure swimming pool, one which witnesses the voices of an epoch and the plethora of people of varied age group conglomerated.
The various parts of the project were designed in a processed manner to create a development plan that brought about an overall synergized character and clean u the ad-hoc development over the years.
